Zottie Dottie is a creative and supportive digital community that Zoie Carroll set up after losing her mum to suicide. Zoie wanted people to know that they are never truly alone, that people do care and that we can all support each other through difficult times no matter where they are located in the world. She tackles the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourages people to tell their stories.
As a young person, Zoie spent many years doing volunteer work and nannying- looking after children from both affluent families and disadvantaged members of society. Zoie then traveled to over 40 different countries around the world. She lived and worked in London, France, Singapore, and finally moved home to Sydney to help her family after her mum took her own life.
During her travels, Zoie witnessed so many people who lived in poverty or grew up facing difficult circumstances. Zoie was always observant & extremely curious, which lead to many conversations with people from all walks of life. Zoie quickly learned that all people have a lot more in common that they like to admit and, unfortunately, too many people focus on their differences rather than bonding over their similarities. The point of Zottie Dottie is to celebrate these differences whilst simultaneously looking for similarities to bring everyone closer together rather than pushing people further apart.
Anyone can join their social media campaign called #SelfieofSupport, which is all about supporting one another through challenging times. You can share your own story of overcoming something challenging to inspire others or simply share what you do to make yourself feel good.
Zottie Dottie recently celebrated its first birthday with a big party, bringing supporters together. Although a young movement, it’s had a global impact. It’s reached people in over 18 different countries and positively impacted thousands of lives.
Zottie Dottie is always seeking to partner and collaborate with other organisations who share similar values and morals; everyone has the ability to create a positive social impact and together we can achieve great things.
